Allergy Supplements for Poodles

Poodles — Standards, Miniatures, and Toys — all share elevated atopy rates. The breed's dense, non-shedding coat traps allergens against the skin, which can intensify the allergic reaction compared to short-coated breeds. Chronic skin allergies in Poodles often appear as paw licking, facial rubbing, and ear infections, and can be complicated by secondary Malassezia yeast infections in the dense coat environment.

Why Poodles need allergy support differently

The Poodle's curly, low-shedding coat is part of their allergen profile: it traps environmental allergens (pollen, dust mites, mold spores) longer than a shedding coat would, increasing exposure duration. Regular grooming reduces allergen load mechanically; internal immune support with quercetin, bromelain, and omega-3 addresses the immune reaction to whatever allergen contact occurs.

The allergy supplement protocol for Poodles

  • Quercetin: 150–400mg depending on Poodle size (50mg per 10 lbs is a starting guide)
  • Bromelain 75–150mg — potentiates quercetin; independent anti-inflammatory benefit
  • Omega-3 (EPA+DHA) 500–2500mg — dose by weight (Toy vs Standard); therapeutic dose reduces skin inflammation at 8–12 weeks
  • Probiotics + prebiotic fiber — gut-immune axis; evidence for reduction in atopic disease severity at 8 weeks

Size matters for dosing

A 5-lb Toy Poodle and an 60-lb Standard Poodle are the same breed but need very different supplement doses. Poodles with significant size variation within the breed benefit from weight-based dosing rather than "one size fits all" label recommendations. MAYA's chews are weight-dosed at the label to ensure appropriate delivery across the size spectrum.
